Principals
Magaly Plunkett, MS, is President of Sovereign Lighting Manufacturing, a W/MBE (Women's and a Minority Business Enterprise). Magaly received a Master of Science in Education from Sarah Lawrence College, and is a former New York State Certified school teacher. Magaly taught in New York City and Westchester County, NY. Today, Magaly owns and co-owns several corporations in commercial lighting and the insurance industry, and has various industry Certificates. Magaly still is passionate about education and believes it helps actualize one’s dreams and fosters equality. Magaly helped establish scholarships and educational programs for young women and orphans in Rajasthan, India; Kathmandu, Nepal; Guayaquil, Ecuador; Cali, Colombia; and closer to her home in New York. She also funded full college scholarships for several women in developing countries. Magaly designs and manufactures commercial and architectural LED lighting fixtures.

Don Plunkett is 2nd generation in manufacturing and President of United Lighting. Don has a PhD and Masters Degrees. He is Adjunct Professor at City University of New York, Pace University, Manhattanville College, and volunteers as a distance professor for persecuted Baha'is prohibited from attending university in Iran. Don guest lectures at manufacturers and universities internationally: Beishida University (Beijing), HKWC (India), McGill University (Montreal), SUFE (Shanghai), and Shanghai Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing. As a young man Don served as a police officer in the South Bronx until he was injured and his partner killed. As a survivor Don volunteers in NYPD peer support to assist officers who were also critically injured. Don invented one of the first bi-level fluorescent commercial lighting fixtures, and currently designs and manufactures energy-efficient LED light fixtures.

The late Donald Plunkett, Sr, was co-owner of Plunkett & Lynch Associates, with warehouses in the Bronx, Manhattan, Long Island City, and Plainfield, NJ. Donald attended Iona College in New York before serving as a US Air Force fighter pilot. Before LED was popular, Donald invented one of the first LED fixtures. LED is now the most widely utilized light source. Prior to LED technology, Donald introduced low voltage MR16s to the United States from France, and pioneered the earliest energy-saving compact fluorescent fixtures. After selling his shares of Plunkett & Lynch in the 90s, Donald was a pro bono product development consultant for the United Lighting Group of Companies, where his valuable experiences in the lighting industry still continue to influence product innovation and development. Donald was known to be a generous philanthropist.
